Obi is one of the major Alago settlements in Nasarawa State and shares boundaries with Awe, Keana, and Lafia Local Government areas.
The people in these areas are mostly farmers, even though they engage in other forms of commerce and local industries that process their food items like the salt in Keana and Awe.
The heritage, prowess, and wealth of the people are measured by their ability to farm and grow their foods for both subsistence and other uses.
It is in these that culture recognising the legitimacy of source of livelihood upholds and awards titles and to individuals as a mark of community recognition.
In Alago land, everyone is a farmer. From Ibi, Doma, Keana, Owusakyo, Olosoho, Obi, Kadarko, Aloshi, Akpanaja, Okpatta, Ogeisa,Amaku (Olonya) in Nasarawa local government area, and other places, the story is the same, and nearly all the Chiefs or traditional rulers of the areas are not left behind.
It is in this regard that the HRH, the Osuko of Obi, Alhaji Aliyu Dangiwa Ogiri Orume, a first class traditional ruler and paramount ruler of his area, has stepped forward to demonstrate his commitment to land and agriculture.
The story is told about how he grows his own food and even gives away some of his harvest to the needy members of his community.
He does this by example and practically encouraging them to return to the farm and take advantage of their dignity, which agriculture bestows to individual lives and the community.
