Cholera outbreak claims five lives in Niger

More than five people have been reportedly killed following cholera outbreak in Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State according to reports

The Permanent Secretary, Niger State Ministry of Health, Doctor Muhammad Gana confirmed the cholera outbreak in Minna. however declined comment on the figures of casualties .

Dr , Doctor Muhammad Gana explained that the Ministry has dispatched a team of health professionals with commodities to stop the spread of the disease.

Our correspondent however learnt that the situation is critical with apprehension that the disease may have spread to other towns in the Local Government Areas in the State.

A health worker who spoke on condition of anonymity, said four new cases have been reported in Paiko hospital.

He attribute the outbreak of the disease to lack of potable drinking water adding that, ” there no water in our facility the use of the patients.

However, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Doctor Muhammad Gana said that the ministry is yet to receive report of the outbreak of cholera in Paikoro Local Government.

He however because cholera is a Water and Sanitation problem.
