The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State has released names of all the Chairmanship candidates cleared through consensus across the 13 Local government areas ahead the October 2nd Local government polls.
Recalled that Chairmanship and councillorship under APC for the local government elections slated for November 2, 2024 across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state emerged through a consensus arrangements.
Presenting the screening report to the State party Chairman, Chairman of the Primary Elections screening Committee, Barr. Tanimu Adamson said the conduct of the screening exercises was devoid of rift, ripples and in line with the party constitution.
Barrister Adamson who described the exercises as successful noted that candidates for the local polls emerged through consensus in accordance with the agreement reached by the party stakeholders in the state, in line with article 20 of the party’s constitution.
“The APC in Nasarawa State is a law-abiding party, thus after the recent expiration of the local government councils chairmen tenure, the party called for a general stakeholders meeting to deliberate on the way forward in order to conduct a peaceful, credible and transparent primary elections.
“We deliberated and agreed unanimously that it should be by consensus according to article 20 of the party’s constitution.
“We have therefore outlined credible candidates for the 13 local government areas that would run for the championship positions and councillors who will constitute the legislative arm and improve the image of legislation at the local government level so that there would be true democracy and provision of dividends of democracy,” he said.
He said his committee as well as the aspirants worked strictly by the critical stakeholders who were earlier tasked with selecting candidates for the polls, across the Local government areas, adding that the selection process was based in a consensus system, one of several ways of conducting primaries as prescribed by the Party’s constitution.
“We chose to go by consensus because the Party constitution in Article 20, provides that primaries can go by direct or indirect. by consensus, we mean that stakeholders or other very important members of the Party could sit down together and deliberate on how to bring the best candidate that would run the affairs of the local government areas,” he averred.
Speaking while receiving the committees report, Chairman of the party in the state, Dr. Aliyu Bello applauded the committee for their sacrifices to ensure the growth of the party, and for delivering on their mandate within the stipulated time.
Bello, said the party would immediately present the list of successful candidates to the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) in order to meet up with the deadline given by the commission.
He further expressed confidence that his party would win the forthcoming November 2 council elections in the state due to the caliber of its candidates.
While expressing confidence in NASIEC to conduct free, fair and credible LG elections, Bello urged other political parties in the state to participate in the polls in order to strengthen democracy.
Earlier, Barrister Adamson had listed the names of the successful candidates to include; Safiyanu Isa (Akwanga LGA), Umar Dan-Akano (Awe LGA) Jonathan Addra (Doma LGA), Abubakar Madaki (Karu LGA), Adamu Aboki, (Keana LGA) and Idris Damagani (Keffi LGA).
Others announced were; Bitrus Agbawu, (Kokona LGA) Mohammed Haliru (Lafia LGA), Mohammed Ahmed (Nasarawa LGA) , Iliya Aliyu (Nassarawa-Eggon), Isa Sani, (Obi LGA), Murtala Danmadami, (Toto LGA) and Ezekiel Jaga (Wamba LGA), respectively.
