Nasarawa State’s first civilian Governor, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, Thursday continued with his fervent lobbying for the gubernatorial ticket of the APC in the 2027 general elections to be allocated to the Nasarawa West senatorial district.

Adamu who reiterated his relentless call while leading delegation of Nasarawa West stakeholders to meet with the Emir of Lafia, Retired Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad, the meeting was to galvanized support for a zoning formula that would favoir the Nasarawa West senatorial district in the upcoming electoral contest.

This is coming as the political atmosphere is being intensified in Nasarawa State, following various political actors making moves to secure their positions.

The growing concerns among residents is determining the direction of the political pendulum, especially as the incumbent governor approaches the end of his eight-year tenure, as mandated by the constitution.

Stakeholders from the Nasarawa West senatorial district are voicing their insistence on adopting a zoning formula for the governorship ticket, reminiscent of the strategy employed in 2019 that successfully delivered the current governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule.

This explains why the array of sons and daughters from the Nasarawa West senatorial district, led by former governor Senator Abdullahi Sule, reached out to the Emir of Lafia, who also serves as the Chairman of the Nasarawa State Traditional Council of Chiefs, Retired Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad.

They sought his support in convincing political leaders and key decision-makers in the state to favor their plea for the governorship ticket to be zoned to the Nasarawa West senatorial district.

“We are here to seek the understanding and support of the Emir of Lafia, who is honored to be the Chairman of the Nasarawa State Traditional Council of Chiefs, in our desire for the next governor of Nasarawa State, succeeding Governor A.A. Sule, to come from the Nasarawa West Senatorial district. We are pleased with what the Emir has said and appreciate the understanding he has shown in this matter,” Adamu expressed with optimism.

During the meeting, Emir of lafia, Retired justice Sidi Bage Muhammad applauded Senator Adamu for uniting the sons and daughters of Nasarawa West in their collective goal.

He stressed the importance of unity among diverse communities, urging the delegation to extend their outreach to other traditional rulers to garner broader support.

“Reflecting on the political history of the state, one can recalled that in 2019, the Nasarawa North senatorial district attempted to secure the same zoning advantage, resulting in a competitive primary that led to Engineer Abdullahi Sule’s eventual election.

Despite a recent acknowledgment by Governor Abdullahi Sule of being a product of the zoning formula, the question remains: will he concede to the pressures from the Nasarawa West stakeholders in their quest for the 2027 governorship ticket?

This pivotal moment promises to shape the future political dynamics of Nasarawa State, leaving many to ponder the outcome as the electoral date approaches.
