The first of Sokoto State sponsored students arrived Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila, in Kano state on Saturday, 20, 2021. The students are thirty seven (37) in number and are for various degree programmes.
The Executive Chairman of the Sokoto State Scholarship Board, Hon. Altine Shehu Kajiji led the delegation to deliver the first batch to the Universty. A total number of 100 students are being sponsored by the administration of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal to study in the Institution.
In his remarks, the chairman of the Scholarship Board, said the gesture was part of the commitment of the Sokoto state Government to ensure equitable access for the indegines of the state to various Universities within and Outside the Country. He added that, in order to encourage the students to face their studies with absolute concentration, they have been placed on monthly stipend of N30000 by the state Government.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Dr. Kabiru Muhammad who received the students said that, Al-Istiqama University as the name implies is an institution whose certificate (s) can only be awarded upon a careful Examination, Discipline, Character, Integrity and Islamic Morals. He further expressed gratitude and appriciation to the Governor on behalf of the proprietor and the entire University community for the rare gesture and unflinching support and also charged the students to always bear in mind that they are representing the good people of Sokoto in the University, portray good conducts as tought by Sheik Usman Bin Fodio in all their dealings within and outside the University.
The Chairman, Planning and Implementation Committee of the University, Dr. Muhammad Ibn Abdallahi, expressed his sincere appreciation to the Governor who despite the scarce resources and the current economic situation made such a bold decision to sponsor students who are mainly from the less privileged to pursue University Degrees.
He charged the students to face their studies with all seriousness so as to reciprocate the kind gesture extended to therm, He also emphasized that Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila is a faith based Institution therefore, he cautioned the students against any indecent act (s) and or behaviours, reiterating that the moral conduct of students is among the top priority of the University.
The Admission Officer Hassan Abdurrahman and the Students Affairs Officer, Musa Sa’adu were also present and had provided outlets to many enquires by the students.
