Bauchi Governor Addresses Defection Rumors Ahead of PDP Convention

The Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has addressed growing concerns about the defection of some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors to other parties. Speaking at the inauguration of the publicity committee for the PDP’s elective convention scheduled for November in Ibadan, Governor Bala, who chairs the committee, emphasized that governors are entitled to their decisions regarding their political affiliations.

When asked about colleagues rumored to be planning to defect, including Governors Mbah and the governor of Taraba state, Governor Bala revealed that he and other PDP governors are engaged in discussions with them. However, he stressed that whatever decisions these governors make will not affect the party’s strength at the grassroots level.

Governor Bala expressed confidence in the PDP’s foundation, stating, “While people are defecting, they are creating vacancies for others to come in.” He added that the party should focus on mobilizing its members and attracting new ones, highlighting that among PDP members are prospective credible governors and persons fit and proper to fill the vacancies being left by the defectors.

The Bauchi State Governor assured that the PDP convention will proceed as planned, without any hindrance. He urged party members to redouble their efforts in mobilizing support and getting more members on board, recalling that the PDP years in government were productive and people centred which resulted in the effective management of the economy despite the orchestrated security sabotage which has now become hydra-headed.

In a further demonstration of the party’s commitment to a successful convention, the media committee has been expanded with the creation of five sub-committees to handle various tasks. Eminent Nigerians, accomplished in media and publicity, have been appointed to chair these sub-committees, which will work closely with other convention committees to ensure seamless information sharing and effective communication.

With these developments, the PDP appears poised to host a successful convention, showcasing its resilience and determination to move forward despite challenges.
