Alia unveils new state symbols, anthem, say they would promote culture, peace, unity

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has unveiled a new symbol and anthem for the state assuring that they reflect the true identity of the state and would promote culture, peace, unity in the state.

Alia who stated this at the grand finale and unveiling of the Benue state symbols on Saturday said the symbols, which were chosen through a rigorous and transparent process are a reflection of the state’s collective identity, values and represent the very essence of who the Benue people are.

He said “They reflect our values, our culture, and our history. They are a reminder of our struggles and our triumphs, and they inspire us to strive for greatness. They are a symbol of our unity and our diversity, and they remind us that we are stronger together than we are apart.

“The state symbols are also an important tool for promoting our state’s Identity and culture. They will be used to brand our state, to attract tourists and investors, and to showcase our rich cultural heritage to the world.

“They will be a source of pride for our citizens, and they will inspire us to work together to build a better future for ourselves and for generations to come.”

Governor Alia urged all citizens of the state to embrace the symbols with pride and enthusiasm and use them to promote the state’s identity and culture, and to inspire others to do the same. He said “Let us wear them on our sleeves, literally and figuratively, and let us show the world what it means to be a true Benue state citizen.

The Governor appreciated the committee for working tirelessly in planning, execution and unveiling of the symbols and anthem and particularly for ensuring that the symbols truly represent the spirit of Benue state.

Alia also lauded all those who made entries for the state symbols saying “Your creativity, imagination, and enthusiasm are what made this project a success. Whether your entry was selected or not, please know that your contribution is valued and appreciated. You have helped to shape the identity of our state, and for that, we are eternally grateful.

He also congratulated the top five finalists, saying their symbols are a testament to their talent, innovation, and dedication to Benue state adding “You have shown that you are true ambassadors of Benue state, and we are proud to have you as part of our community.”

Earlier, the Chairman of State Symbols Screening Committee, Retired Justice Augustine Utsaha, thanked Governor Alia for finding them worthy to be part of the history making event.

Utsaha who noted that the search for identify for Benue was long overdue described the concept of a state symbols as a great idea as it will be a pride for the state.

According to him, the committee worked tirelessly for two weeks to select the best symbol for the state by maintaining transparency through out the whole process.

The chairman expressed hope that the chosen symbols would be a beacon of pride for Benue citizens and attract their commitment to unity and progress for the state.

“I see the symbol being used to promote culture, education, it will play a big role in promoting peace and unity,” he said

He lauded the Governor for his focus in infrastructure saying it is legendary just as his development of human capital is commendable.

The Secretary of the committee, Solomon Iorpev said the committee started with a total of 119 entries which they screened to arrive at the five finalists to allow the state to choose from.
