Benue South: Forum of Former Councillors Endorses Olofu for Senate

As the 2027 general elections draw closer, forum of former elected councillors in Benue South Senatorial District has endorsed the aspiration of the former Commissioner of Finance in Benue State, Dr David Olofu to go for Senate.

The former grassroots Legislators, at. stakeholders meeting, said their endorsement of Dr Olofu was hinged on his humanistic posture as well as the need to entrench equity, fairness and social justice in the politics of the zone.

Moving the motion for his endorsement and adoption as the candidate for the 2027 Senatorial election, one of the leaders of the former local parliamentarians which cuts across different parties, Honourable Dan Atayi who represented Eke council ward of Okpokwu local government council decried the current political situation in the Senatorial district saying “we need a Senator who could champion and accelerate the developmental cause of the senatorial district.

The Forum which has a formidable strength of over Two Thousand members, made up of Chairmen of State Councillors Forum at different times, legislative Leaders; Deputy Leaders, Majority Leaders, Deputy Majority Leaders, Chief Whips, Minority Leaders and members agreed unanimously and adopted the principles of power rotationality across the four Federal Constituencies in Benue South Senatorial District for the Senate Seat.

In an epoch moving motions for the adoption of the rotation of Benue South Senate to Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency and the Endorsement of the Candidature of Honourable David Olofu by the Convener, Comrade Dan Atayi, a Rights Activist and former Councillor representing Ekeh Ward of Okpokwu Local Government Council of Benue State and the State Chairman of Forum Of Councillors, 2017-2019, was seconded by Speakers from each of the four Federal Constituencies.

The first in the series of seconders was Honourable Sunday Ochigbo, a former Leader of Okpokwu Legislative Council who spoke on behalf of Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency who described the move as patriotic said Dr Olofu’s philanthropic initiatives has endeared him to all and sundry.

It was followed by Honourable Peter Onyokparu, also a former Leader of Oju Legislative Council who spoke on behalf of Oju/Obi Federal Constituency saying that the rotational principle and the candidacy of Dr Olofu would usher foster peace and unity which he said were the elixirs of development of theentireBenueSouthSenatorialDistrict.

This was again followed by Honourable Adeka Godwin who spoke and seconded on behalf of Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency while Honourable Magaji Alade a former Leader, Apa Legislative Council, spoke on behalf of Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency.

In a voice vote as in Legislative business and order, the Convener, Rt. Hon. Atayi asked the members of the Forum present that those who support the Endorsement of Hon. David Olofu for Senate, come 2027 should say “I” and those against should say “Nay”, with a thunderous voice, the “I”s had it as there was no dissenting voice.

On his part, the Senatorial Aspirant, who will be gunning for the seat on the platform of the African Democratic Congress-ADC, Dr David Olofu, thanked the former Legislators for the confidence reposed in him saying “it’s profitable to follow the course of emancipation than to be pigeon-holed in sycophancy, servitude, partisanship, segregation , underdevelopment and poor representation”.

He assured that the Forum would be part of his proposed Benue South People’s Assembly when by the grace of God he emerged victorious because of the unique and special status of elected Councillors as Leaders in their various Wards.

He therefore, urged the grassroot leaders ti network and sensitize the people positively in other to achieve success at the poll to enable him achieve his vision which he disclosed was to galvanise the collective growth of the senatorial district.

This endorsement, marked the 7th since he began consultation to run for the Senate to represent the good people of Benue South at the Red Chamber, come 2027.
