The Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki has assured Nigerians and indeed supporters of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) despite the movement of some of its governors to the ruling APC, the party would sort itself out at the end of the day.
Responding to President Bola Tinubu’s Democracy Day remarks about the disarray in the opposition parties , especially the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Saraki acknowledged the internal challenges within the party but expressed confidence that the party will recover them.
President Tinubu had during his Democracy Day address at the National Assembly on Thursday, mocked the opposition’s current state, stating, “It is a joy to see the opposition in disarray. For me, I will not say, try your best to put your house in order. I will not help you to do so, either.”
Tinubu also dismissed allegations that his administration is seeking to impose a one-party state by encouraging mass defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Reacting, Saraki conceded that the PDP has experienced internal turbulence but stressed that the party would “sort itself out.”
He called on members of the PDP and other opposition groups to focus on internal reorganization and self-correction, aligning with the President’s remarks that each political party must take responsibility for its own stability.
“I think we must take him by his words,” Saraki told journalists. “I mean, he spoke well, saying that he’s not for a one-party state. So we must take him by his word, and he supports a multi-party democracy, So we are all on the same page.”
The former governor of Kwara State added that “That’s why we are going around and bringing everybody to come around. So those who say they are under pressure, there is no pressure anymore. We’re all for multi-party (democracy), and everybody should get their house in order. As he said, he’s not going to help us, so we are going to sort our own house out.”, Saraki declared.
