A mild drama occurred at the Nasarawa state government house, Lafia, on Thursday during a buffet organized in honour of President Muhammadu Buhari, who was on a two day working visit to the state.
The blight on the sumptuous evening event was that the outage occurred while all the important guests and dignitaries, including the president, were seated.
A source who was at the event told TMSnews on condition of anonymity that the incident occurred when the minister of Aviation Hadi Sirika was about to speak at the well attended occasion, witnessed by Senators Abdullahi Adamu and Tanko Almakura who are both slugging it out to clinch the post of National Chairman of the APC. Incidentally, the two were former governors of the state who were at one-time members of the PDP, and both have pending cases with the EFCC.
“The minister was just about to speak when the light went off for about 10 minutes.
Attendees at the event resorted using mobile phone torchlights to illuminate the hall before power was eventually restored.” He said.
Recall that President Buhari had gone on a two day working visit to Nasarawa state where he commissioned some projects completed by the Aministration of governor AA Sule who inherited them from previous governments including those statrted by the PDP in the State.
The main opposition party, PDP had on Wednesday via a statement carpeted the president for going to commission projects they alleged were initiated and, in some cases, almost completed by the party.
Among the projects commissioned by the president are the 330,132,33 kilovolts (kV) Akurba power transmission substation in Lafia, the state capital, the Lafia city Airport Kwandere, and the skills acquisition centre in Lafia.
Meanwhile, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in the state has flung jibes at the president for flying into the capital on a helicopter for the commissioning of an airport and not the presidential jet that befits such occasion.
The PDP said it is wondering why the President chose a helicopter over a jet for such an important occasion that is meant to show the world the workability of the airport.
