Nasarawa State House of Assembly has received a report of the House Standing Committee on Works and Transport on A Bill for a Law to Repeal and Re-enact the Nasarawa State Electricity Power Agency Law, 2018 and Provide for alternative electricity Generation, Transmission, System Operation, Distribution and Supply in the State and for Other Matters Connected Therewith.
To this end, the House said there is no going back on its quest to empower the State with legislative backing to generate its own electricity to address the poor power supply in the State.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, received the report of the bill after the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Suleiman Azara presented the report during the House proceedings Tuesday in Lafia.
The Speaker slated Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024 for the deliberation of the committee’s report.
Speaker Jatau said that the bill if finally passed would boost power supply thereby ending poor electricity supply in the State.
” This bill when passed will create jobs and increase the revenue base of the State as well as boost socio-economic activities. This will also end the unbearable power supply situation across the State”
The lawmakers however adopted the report of the bill as they set for its deliberation and quick passage with Doma Dam and Farin Ruwa Water Falls to be an added advantage for the State.
Earlier, the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Suleiman Yakubu Azara while presenting the report listed 9 recommendations for the House’s approval.
He called on his colleagues to support the committee’s recommendations for improved power supply in the State.
