Ex NOA DG Omeri, Mourns Prof Aminu, Doc Usman

The former Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Dr. Mike Omeri has condoled with the families of 2 eminent Nigerians who both died on Thursday June 5th 2025 in Abuja.

While Professor Jibril Aminu was former Vice chancellor of the University of Maiduguri and one time Senator of the Federal Republic among others appointments in the services of the nation, Doc Joshua Usman, a 1990 graduate of the college of medicine of the University of Maiduguri was the Deputy Chief Medical Director of Diff Hospital, Abuja.

Professor Aminu, a pioneer Nigerian Heart surgeon and specialist, was also a minister of Education and later Petroleum during which a number of reforms were implemented in the sectors to his credit, wisdom and penchant for innovation and effective management.

Dr. Omeri who is also Chairman TMS Services, noted that Professor Jibrin was a patriot who believed that Nigerians, once given the opportunity can excel beyond the mark, he, being an example of such feats as one of the first surgeons to successfully undertake heart transplant in Nigeria, at the University College, now University of Ibadan in the early 1970s. “He was Vice Chancellor when I was a student and we saw how he pulled faculty from across Nigeria, Africa and globally to enrich the learning space in Maiduguri”

On Doc Joshua Usman, Omeri described his demise as a personal loss, considering their long standing friendship since Maiduguri and restated that Usman was brilliant Doctor described as a ‘Medicine Man” because of his commitment to his profession and all his patients. He was a rare gift to medicine and the country adding that “those who knew him would understand the magnitude of loss to this country and the field of medicine.

Doctor Usman was Chief Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist who until his demise last Thursday, committed his all to the practice of Medicine. A surgeon and fertility expert, he was a member of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology and the America Society for Reproductive Health.

Meanwhile, a funeral programme has been released for Doc Usman by the Family of Doctor Usman. A statement signed and released by his son, Jeremiah Usman indicated that a Service of Songs would be held on Friday 13 June 2025 by 4 pm at the paragon, Diff Medical Centre, Gudu, Abuja.

Similarly, the Funeral Service would be held on Saturday, 14th July, 2925 at the same venue by 10am while the internment would be at Gudu Cemetry immediately after the funeral service.

According to the Statement, there would be a thanksgiving Service on Sunday 15, June 2025 at the Paragon, Diff Medical Centre, Gudu, Abuja.

Jeremiah further thanks all Nigerians and other family members from all works of life who have reached out through phone calls, text messages and personal visits to commiserate with the family at this moment of loss and great grief. He was survived by a wife Nangi, 3 daughters and a son, two of whom are also medical doctors and scholars.
