FCT Council Election: Counting, collation underway as voting ends across polling units

Voting has officially ended in many polling units and counting and collation of votes are in progress in Saturday’s elections across the six area councils of the federal capital Territory FCT

Results of the elections have started trickling in from some of the polling units where voting have been concluded

TMSnews field reporters who monitored the process said the collation has started at the polling unit levels and will proceed to the ward and area council levels.

In all, six chairmen and 62 councillors are expected to emerge across the FCT’s six council areas.

The counting of votes at polling units are being carried out by presiding officers in the presence of party agents, media and security agents.

At the CBN quarters polling unit 008, the PDP Chairmanship candidate emerged winner with 27 votes while the APC came nearest with 19 votes.

At the NNPC quarters polling unit, the PDP Councillorship candidate emerged winner with 29 voted while the APC candidate came second with 19 votes.

Voting officially was to commenced at 8 a.m and end at 2:30 p.m but that was not the case at various polling units monitored by our field correspondents. In some polling units voting started at about 10am.

TMSnews’ reporters have also observed malfunctioning of BVAS, vote buying and late arrival of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at many polling units.

Voter apathy was also witnessed at some polling units as citizens went about their normal activities, ignoring the election.
