Few Hours After Declaring to Run for Presidency, EFCC drags Okorocha to court over alleged N2.9bn fraud

On Monday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed 17 charges against former Imo State governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha, over alleged N2.9 billion.

The news of the charges filed by the EFCC broke few hours after the Senator representing Imo West at the current National Assembly declared to run for the presidency seat in 2023.

The EFCC filed 17 charges against Senator Okorocha who while declaring his intention to run for the highest office in the land vowed to unite Nigerians across religious and ethnic divides.

Others the commission said conspired with Okorocha, currently representing Imo West at the Senate to commit the alleged crimes incude Anyim Nyerere Chinenye, Naphtali International Limited, Perfect Finish Multi Projects Limited, Consolid Projects Consulting Limited, Pramif International Limited, and Legend World Concepts Limited.

The EFCC said the accused diverted the funds between October 2014 and February 2016 from the Imo State Government House account and Imo State Joint Local Government Project account.
