The Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO), has welcomed the National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation team for its first-ever accreditation exercise, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s development.
Speaking at the event in Otukpo, the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Obekpa Abah, described the visit as a historic moment that would shape FUHSO’s journey and establish its sound footing in health sciences education.
While acknowledging the university’s growth challenges, the VC noted that despite being less than five years old and still operating from a temporary site across the Otada and GRA campuses, FUHSO remains committed to academic excellence.
“We appeal to you to view FUHSO not through the prism of an established institution but as a young university with immense potential. Every great institution started from humble beginnings, and today, we stand boldly at the threshold of greatness,” Abah stated.
Highlighting infrastructural progress, he revealed that the university’s permanent site is rapidly developing, with several key projects near completion, including: the Administrative Building which is 75% completed, the College of Medicine Complex, featuring modern laboratories and lecture halls, several departmental buildings designed for interdisciplinary collaboration, and student hostels aimed at creating a conducive learning environment.
Prof. Abah also praised the NUC’s role in maintaining educational standards, expressing confidence in the accreditation team’s fairness and expertise.
“As you tour our facilities, you will witness firsthand the tangible progress of our vision. This accreditation is not just validation for us but also an encouragement to continue our pursuit of excellence,” he added.
The accreditation exercise is expected to provide critical feedback that will guide FUHSO in its mission to become a leading institution for health sciences education, research, and innovation in Nigeria.
