Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa has distributed five brand new Land Cruiser Special Utility Vehicles and five new Toyota Hilux vans to traditional rulers in the state.
The vehicles were presented to five first class emirs and chiefs in the state.
The governor said that the gesture was part of government’s logistics aid to the traditional rulers as custodians of culture.
He said that government held the traditional rulers in high esteem for their roles and contributions in promoting peace and culture.
“Your role in entrenching peaceful coexistence in the society cannot be over- emphasised, hence the need for government to carry you along in the scheme of governance,’’ Fintiri said.
He said government relied heavily on traditional rulers to build peace and maintain security because of their closeness to the people.
Responding, on behalf of the state’s Traditional Council, the Emir of Mubi, Alhaji Abubakar Ahmadu, thanked the governor for the gesture.
The emir represented the Lamido Adamawa, Alhaji Muhammadu Barkindo, at the occasion.
Alhaji Ahmadu promised that the traditional rulers would use the vehicles judiciously.
“This special gift will remain indelible in our minds, he said.
The royal father also assured the governor of the traditional rulers’ support and loyalty to government.
He called on their subjects to co-operate with Gov. Fintiri and give him maximum cooperation to enable him to deliver more dividends of democracy.
Traditional rulers who benefitted from the gesture are the Lamido Adamawa, the Emir of Mubi, the Amne of Shelleng the Gangwari of Ganye and the Hama Bata. (
