Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, on Sunday again emphasized the importance of unity, peace, and cultural preservation among citizens, reaffirming his administration’s resolve to fostering peaceful coexistence and harmony across Plateau State.
The Governor made the call during the 2025 Wusal Berom Service, held at Mararaban Jama’a, Jos South Local Government Area, organized by the Berom Language and Translation Board (BLTB).
A statement signed by Bere Gyang his director of press and public affairs reads that while addressing a large gathering of worshippers, traditional leaders, clergy, and political dignitaries, Governor Mutfwang expressed deep gratitude to God and to the Berom people for their steadfast support. He fondly recalled that prayers offered during the 2022 Wusal Berom preceded his emergence as Governor.
“I remember coming here for Wusal Berom 2022, and you prayed for me. Today, by the grace of God, I am the Governor of Plateau State. I thank you for giving me the privilege to walk in the footsteps of our father and the father of modern Plateau, Da Jonah Jang,” the Governor said.
He commended the clergy for promoting love and brotherhood among the people, stressing that unity and mutual respect remain the foundation for the state’s collective progress.
“We are brothers and sisters under God. That is the spirit we must nurture, a united Plateau pursuing God’s purpose for our existence,” he emphasized.
Governor Mutfwang also reaffirmed his high regard for traditional institutions, particularly the revered stool of the Gbong Gwom Jos, describing it as “a Plateau stool, not just a Berom stool.” He assured that his administration will continue to support and strengthen traditional leadership structures as a means of sustaining peace, harmony, and stability across the state.
In a remarkable gesture of support, the Governor announced a donation of ₦10 million to the Berom Bible Translation Trust for the production of audio Bibles, especially for the elderly, and ₦20 million to the Berom Women’s Association (BIDA) to empower widows and vulnerable women. He further pledged ₦100 million as seed money for the development of the proposed Wusal Berom Arena, assuring full government collaboration toward its realization.
Addressing the youths, Governor Mutfwang cautioned them against being used on social media to malign leaders, reminding them that “power belongs to God, and He gives it to whom He wills.” He encouraged them to embrace politics of collaboration rather than conflict, stressing that Plateau’s progress must rise above partisan divides.
Earlier, goodwill messages were delivered by Former Governor, Sen. Jonah David Jang, who commended Governor Mutfwang’s humility and people-centered leadership, and by His Royal Highness, Da Edward Gyang Bot, representing the Gbong Gwom Jos, who applauded the Governor’s dedication to peace, inclusivity, and cultural preservation.
Other dignitaries present included Senator Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang, Hon. (Dr.) Bernard Doro, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, representatives of the APC National Chairman, and several political, religious, and traditional leaders.
The Chairman of the Wusal Berom 2025 Planning Committee, Rev. Daniel Saje, expressed appreciation to all stakeholders for their immense contributions to the success of the event. A major highlight was the unveiling of the proposed Wusal Berom Arena, symbolizing a new era of unity, cultural revival, and progress for the Berom Nation and Plateau State as a whole.
