In a decisive step toward addressing critical gaps in basic education and primary healthcare, Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has inaugurated the Steering and Technical Committees for the implementation of the Human Capital Opportunities Prosperity and Equity (HOPE-Gov) project.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening financial and human resource management in these key sectors to enhance service delivery for the benefit of Plateau citizens.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the Twin Theater, New Government House, Rayfield, was conducted under the auspices of the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.
Governor Mutfwang, represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Jos, Builder Jeremiah Satmark, emphasized the importance of the project in driving sustainable improvements in healthcare and education across the state.
“This program is a cornerstone of our administration’s commitment to the people. If we get primary healthcare and basic education right, we can effectively tackle the broader challenges in the education and health sectors. His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, is dedicated to ensuring this project succeeds,” Satmark stated.
He further highlighted the administration’s determination to revitalize these sectors, noting that the inadequacies in the primary healthcare system have put immense pressure on tertiary healthcare facilities. The Commissioner for Health, Plateau State, Dr. Cletus Bako Shurkuk, provided an overview of the HOPE-Gov project, explaining its objectives and structure. According to him, the project, funded by the World Bank, is a Federal Government initiative aimed at assisting states in closing gaps in human capital development.
It is structured into three components: HOPE Governance, HOPE Healthcare, and HOPE Basic Education, and will span a period of four years.
Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Chrysanthus Dawam, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Yohanna Magut, commended Governor Mutfwang for his commitment to improving the lives of Plateau citizens through this initiative.
