The group slammed the sacked Pro Chancellor for running the University Governing Council as a local government chairman as reflected in the suspension of then pioneer VC, Prof Innocent Ujah and appointing an Acting VC in person of Prof Ediga Agbo without respect to Universities Autonomous Act, 2003.
In a press statement by Musa Adamu , National Coordinator and Abel Adason, Secretary, observed that the Council did not investigate the proper status of Prof Agbo in FUHSO and the source of the transfer letter from ATBU, Bauchi.
According to them, the sacked Chairman along with his council members in a very controversial circumstances last October, 2024, appointed Prof Agbo whose tenure has expired as the Deputy VC Admin and no longer in the service of FUHSO as the acting VC without any respect to stipulated guidelines as stated in the Act .
The group fumed over the lack of transparency by the Council in appointment an outsider as Acting VC which according to them is contrary to the law and total lack of respect for the regulatory agencies.
According to the press statement, they asserted has within a short period of two months has really humiliated and stabbed those outstanding Nigerians who worked assiduously to bring the University to the current level of academic excellence.
The Group while calling on the Federal Ministry of Education, National Universities Commission and other relevant bodies to properly investigate the source of the purported letter of transfer of service process between FUHSO and ATBU in respect of Prof Agbo to accertain the authentic source of the letter, ‘ Pls how could the Council appoint someone whose is transfer letter is highly questionable. Does the Council has the power to employ or accept any transfer and appoint the person Acting VC without following the due process as stipulated by law’.
‘Sir, we don’t need any thing than seen that the right thing is done according to the law governing Universities Administration in Nigeria. We are not equally interested or want to know who the Senate of the University elect or appointed, but we are more interested in seeing that the right thing is done and the transfer letter is properly investigated’
