Henceforth all abartoirs with filthy environment in Nasarawa will be shut down – Commissioner

Nasarawa State Government has threatened to close down the Lafia Modern Abattoir over poor sanitary conditions of the facility.

The State Commissioner of Environment and Natural Resources, Dr. Margaret Elayo stated this while speaking to journalists shortly after August’s sanitation exercise in Lafia, the state capital.

Dr. Margaret Elayo expressed dismay over the poor sanitary condition of the Lafia Modern Abattoir, noted that the the state government will not tolerate any act of unhygienic practices.

The Environment Commissioner represented by the Permanent Secretary, Hussaini Babayi, remarked that the Ministry will monitor the activities of the abattoir to ensure cleanliness and strict compliance to sanitation law, stressing that the act threatens the health well-being of the citizenry.

The commissioner who was represented by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Huseni Baba said the ministry would not leave anything stone unturned to ensure the cleaningness of Abattoirs in compliance with the state. Sanitation laws.

Dr Elayo who described abattoir as a sensitive environment, stressed the need to educate those working at the abartoirs on the sensitivity nature of the environment considering the health implications of the citizenry.

She warned that henceforth regular visitation to all abartoirs across the state would be carried out.

“We shall regularly conduct unscheduled visit to all the abortoirs and other designated places where animals a slaughtered to ensure that the health of our people are protected”.

” The government under the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Sule can not continue to fold its arms and watch the lives of the citizens cut short due to filthy environment in the state.”, the commissioner warned.
