The Kano State House of Assembly has suspended the Chairman of Rano Local Government Area, Muhammad Nazir Yau, for three months.

He was suspended over allegations of misconduct, abuse of office, and mismanagement of public funds.

The suspension followed complaints from councillors in the LGA, prompting the House Committee on Public Petition, led by Majority Leader Hussaini Lawan Cediyar Yangurasa, to present an interim report during Wednesday’s plenary and

The lawmakers said the move would allow for a thorough investigation into the claims.

The Assembly directed the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to appoint the vice chairman to serve in acting capacity until the investigation is completed.

The allegations against Yau include creating political unrest among councillors, favouring political allies in the distribution of government resources, selling government fertiliser above the approved ₦20,000 rate, mismanaging market revenues, illegally selling market stalls, and showing disrespect to party elders.

During a committee sitting on August 11, Yau denied most of the accusations but admitted to increasing the price of fertiliser by ₦ 20,000.
