The Delta State House of Assembly on Wednesday barred journalists from covering Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s state address.

Tmsnews gathered that Journalists who arrived at the Assembly complex around 9:30 a.m. were denied entrance, despite presenting valid identification from their respective media organizations.

Security personnel stationed at the gate, led by ASP Saviour David, insisted that journalists would not be allowed into the premises. Media outlets affected include Spade Nigeria News online, The Punch, The Guardian, Nigerian Tribune, ThisDay, Champion, Emerald Online, among others.

While a few individuals, including three female journalists affiliated with Government House, were granted access, the majority of reporters were turned away. ASP Saviour David stated that the directive to bar journalists came from “above,” refusing to provide further clarification

“If you like, call anybody—nobody will answer you,” he told the aggrieved journalists.

Efforts to reach the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor and the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker for comments were unsuccessful, as their mobile lines were said to unreachable at the time of filing this report.
