Institute urges President Buhari to strengthen public procurement to fight corruption

The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to strengthen procurement in the public sector so as to fight corruption effectively.

Its Registrar, Alhaji Mohammed Aliyu, made the call when he spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on the side-line of the Institute’s Annual General Meeting.

Aliyu said that almost every corrupt practice in the public sector had links with procurement hence the need to strengthen the sector as it was important to economic growth.

He expressed concern that procurement, on which budgets are anchored, had been neglected for long and suggested that professionals should be engaged in all procurement processes.
