Barely two weeks to the conduct of local government elections in Nasarawa State, Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), Barr. Ayuba Wandai Usman has admonished election officials posted to the thirteen local government areas of the state to be in charge of their duties and locations warning further that they are only answerable to the commission in the discharge of their assignment.
The Commission Chairman who gave the admonition in Lafia while addressing newly posted election officials during a train-the-trainer workshop for the November 2 elections, said commissioners of the commission will also superintend over various areas to ensure that the polls were peaceful.
According to NASIEC boss, “the commission has gathered more innovations and experiences from election observations with INEC and other sister state electoral bodies over the years which will be applied in this local government elections in Nasarawa state”..
Speaking on the recruitment of ad-hoc staff, the NASIEC boss told the gathering that the process of recruitment was technology-driven for seamless and efficient service delivery, stressing that academics from different institutions have also been contracted to support and enhance better election management.
In an opening address, the Commissioner in-charge of Planning, Research and Strategy, Mukhtar Angbashim, while highlighting the crucial importance of the workshop, noted that it was aimed at equipping the election officials with realities and trends in electioneering.
Angbashim enjoined the participants to extensively use the knowledge gained to richly impact the local councils polls in accordance with the commission’s mandates.
The workshop enriched the knowledge of the election officials in areas such as legal and regulatory framework, pre-election activities, election activities and post-election activities by highly resourceful scholars and technocrats.
