liberalize private health institutions operations to bridge manpower gap – Regent college registral urges FG, state govts

The registrar, Regent college of health science and technology Lafia, Nasarawa state, Victor Galadima on Monday called on the federal and state governments to provide enabling environments for private health institutions to bridge the manpower gap.

He has also said that the establishment of private institution would contribute to the upliftment of health related issues, reduce the burden of the governments in ensuring qualitative, enduring and health for all which According to him we’re still lacking in most part of the country.

Galadima who spoke while fielding questions from journalists on facts finding mission to the institution in Lafia, argued that health institutions has continued to suffer setback especially in the rural areas due to inadequate policy formulation, coordination to drive the institutions whose responsibility is to train and chunk out enough manpower to contend with the high manpower demands.

“I want to advocate for close monitoring, supervision and well define policy direction to to regulate and control the operations of Some if the health institutions especially in Nasarawa. It is disheartening to see institutions fighting themselves and extorting students seeking knowledge in violation of our mandate.”Galadima stated.

Galadima, explained that Regent college of health science and technology Lafia, Nasarawa state commenced it’s first session on the 18th day of September 2023, with approval from the Nasarawa state government fully registered with the corporate affairs commission.

“The college is currently operating with a total population of over 432 students, ready to graduate it’s first set of students in 2026 with out affiliating with any institution in Nigeria is no doubt facing some rivalry challenges.

“The college is currently operating 3 departments in the likes of medica laboratory, pharmacy department and community health which soon to be accredited.

“Regent college of health science and technology is equipped with laboratory for extensive practical training, has concluded plans to acquired a coaster bus, procurement of 75 laptops in the ICT unite, fitted with all classes of air facilities for conducive learning environment for the students.

He added that already, solar energy to effectively tackle power outage well being installed to provide for efficient and effective learning environment for the students admitted from all parts of the country.

On staff and students welfare, Galadima hinted that lecturers of the college were best paid compared to other health institutions operating in Nasarawa state.

According to him, Lecturers we’re being three thousand naira per hour as compared to other colleges of health science and technology in the country noting that the school has also provided adequate hostel accommodation to students as well as security measures adequately provided.
