Nasarawa Government at the weekend distributed relief materials to windstorm victims in Awe Local Government Area (LGA) of the State.
Director General, Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency (NASEMA),Benjamin Akwash who supervised the distribution of the food and other items, said the distribution of the relief material was in response to the devastating windstorm that wreaked havoc in Azara Development Area and the Mahanga community in Awe LGA.
“We are here primarily to respond to the windstorm that destroyed houses, property, livestock, and other valuables few weeks back.
“We swiftly responded by visiting the two affected communities, Mahanga and Azara Development Area for on-the-spot assessment and took stock of the affected households. Today we have come with relief materials to distribute to them to reduce the pain inflicted on the affected victims”. the NASEMA DG stated
According to him, the items distributed comprised rice, grains, garri, mattresses, cement, bundles of zinc, blankets, mosquito nets, toiletries among others
“The Government under the leadership of Gov Abdlahi Sule is leaving to its responsibility, the governor is a compassionate and responsive leader, he is aware of the pains you went through due to the windstorm, hence this effort to bring succour to you,” BASEMAN boss declared.
Akwash, while warning against diversion of the items, urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items to reflect the purpose it was meant for.
Awe LGA Chairman, Umar Dan’ Akano who was represented by the Council Secretary, Yunusa Ismail thanked Gov Sule and NASEMA DG for the intervention and pledged the council’s support for the administration.
“This support given to our people in this critical time will give them a sense of belonging, and it will go a long way to reduce the pain they went through,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries at Mahanga community, Sarkin Mahanga, Alh. Usamatu Abdulrahman, thanked Gov Sule and the Agency for support and assured that the items would be fairly shared among the people they were meant for.
In the same vein, the administrator of Azara Development Area, while appreciating the Governor for his quick response, thanked the DG NASEMA for personally supervising the distribution of the relief materials.
Jada, however, made a case for more support for the people of Azara, given the magnitude of the destruction by the windstorm.
