A group known as Alia Consolidation Core Team (Benue- ACCT) has accused Senator Abba Moro, Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District of double standard and pursuing selective justice for his failure to speak up against the treatment and subsequent suspension of Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a fellow member of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The group’s Secretary, Comrade Didacus Iorver, made the accusation in a statement titled “Sen. Moro’s Duplicity Finally Defined” and made available to newsmen in Makurdi on Friday.
Iorver recalled that recently, Senator Moro played the role of a self-appointed moral arbiter saying his forthright intrusion in the affairs of the Benue State House of Assembly, where he criticized the removal of the Chief Judge and the suspension of 13 assembly members, signifies a man who thrives on squabble rather than genuine concern for governance.
He expressed worry why he calmly turned a blind eye to abuses against his own party describing it as playing double standard.
The group who queried whether his meddle in state matters was genuinely about justice or a malicious way to get at the state leadership noted “in stark contrast, Moro has remained inexplicably silent in the face of the dragging, suppression and consequent suspension slammed at Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a fellow member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
They said “This glaring double standard reveals a troubling paradox in his principles.
“If he was so quick to lash out at perceived injustices in Benue, why has he chosen to ignore an egregious act against one of his own? Moro’s silence speaks volumes, suggesting that his concern for what he termed justice is selective and contingent on his political convenience.”
They said the “ruthless retribution meted out to Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, stripping her of entitlements and privileges without just cause, is a conspicuous aggression on democratic principles and the rights of representatives. What constitutes a crime extreme enough to necessitate such draconian measures against a voice elected by the people?
According to them “Moro’s passivity not only impairs the integrity of the Senate but also weakens the absolute foundation of the PDP, which claims to promote the rights of its members. His hesitation to speak out against this prejudice is a sellout of the ideals he proclaims to uphold.
“…His tight-lipped posture on Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension accentuates a cynical political strategy, one that prioritizes silence over accountability. If he continues down this path, he defies alienating not just his party members but also the constituents who expect their leaders to stand firm against injustice, nevertheless of the political significance.”
They called on Sen. Moro to adopt integrity over opportunism and to hold himself answerable to the very fundamentals he claims to represent.
