New minimum wage: Gov. Sule faces industrial disharmony as Assembly workers commences strike next week

Workers of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly (NSHA) under the aegis of Parliament Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) have threatened to commence indefinite strike on Wednesday April 16 over the non implementation of the ₦70,500 minimum wage.

The Chairman of PASAN, Comrade Suleiman Oshafu announced while briefing newsmen shortly after a congress meeting in Lafia on Thursday.

Reacting, the Speaker of the State Assembly, Mr. Danladi Jatau, in a statement on Thursday issued by his press secretary, Mr Jibrin Gwamna, appealed to the staff to suspend the planned strike.

The Speaker said the issue will be address without any further delay as Governor Abdullahi Sule is a listening leader with the interest of his people at heart.

Mr Jatau assured that all issues regarding the matter will be address without any further delay.

The statement quoted the Speaker as calling on the staff to exercise little patience as all efforts are on to ensure that their minimum wage is paid.

He said the issue of minimum wage is constitutional and the assembly staff will not be denied their rights as modality has been put in place to ensure that the enjoy the minimum wage hence the need of his call on them not to embark on strike.

The Speaker re-affirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of staff and ensuring a conducive working environment.
