NYSC enrolls 3,500 corps members into NHIS in Borno

NYSC has enrolled more than 3,500 corps members into the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in Borno, its coordinator in the state, Alhaji Nura Umar said on Tuesday in Katsina.

He made the declaration in a chat with newsmen after the swearing-in of the 2022 Batch ‘A’ Stream One corps members posted to Borno.

Corps members deployed in Borno conduct their three-week orientation in Katsina because of security challenges in the former.

Umar said 791 corps members were posted to Borno, comprising 257 females and 534 males, adding that all had been enrolled in the NHIS.

The programme is designed to cover pre-orientation, orientation; primary assignment and terminal leave periods of the service year of the corps members.

According to Umar, the health insurance scheme will assist the corps members to access health facilities free, whenever the need arises.

“The camp clinic is fully managed by NHIS officials in collaboration with the Federal Medical Centre Katsina,’’ Umar said.

He assured the NYSC members that the scheme had strong collaboration with all security agencies in the state to ensure their safety during the orientation.

Addressing the corps members earlier, Umar said: “I appeal to corps members to pay more attention to camp activities, especially the Federal Government’s skills acquisition programme.

“This will make corps members to become self-reliant at the end of their service years as white collar jobs are not readily available.

“I encourage you to avail yourselves of opportunities for self-employed people offered through our Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme.

“You are expected to choose from any of the skills sets and make yourselves available for the training, which starts from the orientation camp.

“On our part, management will continue to work with relevant stakeholders for the success of the programme,’’ Umar assured.

He also advised corps members to strictly adhere to outlined preventive measures against COVID-19, especially the physical distancing, the wearing of face masks and the use of hand-washing facilities provided in the camp.

Umar also commended Borno and Katsina State governments, security agencies and other stakeholders for their support toward the success of the NYSC programme.

The oath of allegiance was administered on the corps members by a High Court judge in Borno, Justice Adamu Zandai-Musa.
