Troops of Sector 1 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), said they have nabbed three suspects with pistol in Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State.
This was coming barely few days after gunmen attacked members of Awule community in Ohimini Local Government Area (LGA) of the State killing residents.
The Force Commander, OPWS Major General Moses Gara, noted that the troops have continued to intensify efforts to rid Benue State and adjoining areas of criminal elements threatening peace and stability.
He explained that “On 05 November 2025, troops on routine patrol along Otukpo–Enugu Road at Amoda Axis in Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State arrested three suspected criminals found in possession of a locally made pistol and one cartridge.
The suspects, identified as John Isaac, 22 years, Baba Emmanuel, 17 years, and Sunday Thomas, 19 years, all residents of Otukpo LGA were stopped for a search based on intelligence while riding a motorcycle.
He said sequel to the search, the troops recovered three mobile phones and the sum of ₦20,200 from the suspects. Preliminary investigation suggests that the suspects were on their way to carry out a criminal act before they were intercepted by the vigilant troops.
According to him, the suspects are currently in custody for further investigation and necessary actions.
Major General Gara, commended the troops for their professional conduct and robust response in countering the threat before it is actualized and urged them to maintain the momentum of operations and intensify surveillance to ensure the safety of farmers and rural dwellers, especially as the harvest season progresses.
Gara, in a statement signed by Acting Media Information Officer, OPWS, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu further reaffirmed the commitment of Operation Whirl Stroke to sustaining peace and stability across Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States, assuring residents of the military’s unwavering dedication to protecting lives and property.
