The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), North Central Zone, has passed a vote of confidence on its zonal leadership under the executive governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for what it described as unwavering commitment and strategic guidance during the successful conduct of the zonal congress on May 24, 2025.

The resolution was part of a communiqué issued at the end of the party’s inaugural zonal meeting held on Monday, July 28, 2025, in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

According to the communiqué signed by the Zonal Secretary, Hon. Francis O. Orogu, the party commended the leadership of Governor Mutfwang and other prominent leaders in the zone, affirming their dedication to the growth and unity of the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“We extend a heartfelt vote of confidence to the North Central Zonal leadership under the leadership of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, and other leaders of the zone for their unwavering commitment and guidance,” the communiqué stated.

The Zone also expressed appreciation to the National Working Committee (NWC), the National Assembly Caucus, the Governors’ Forum, the Board of Trustees (BOT), and founding fathers of the PDP for their roles in stabilizing and repositioning the party at the national level.

In a bold move, the PDP North Central Zone called for the immediate reinstatement of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who they described as a courageous representative of the Kogi Central Senatorial District and a voice for underrepresented women in the National Assembly.

“We commend our distinguished Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, affectionately known as the Iron Lady, for her courage and service. We affirmed that she is not alone,” the statement read. “We therefore call on the leadership of the National Assembly under Senate President Godswill Akpabio to immediately lift her suspension and restore her to her rightful seat.”

The Zone noted that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s continued absence from the Senate chamber disenfranchises her constituents and contributes to the underrepresentation of women in governance.

Furthermore, the PDP leadership in the zone condemned the spate of killings in the region and across the country, urging religious leaders to shift focus from politics to moral guidance.

“We condemn the unnecessary killings in the North Central and Nigeria as a whole and urge our religious leaders to talk more on morality instead of politicking,” the communiqué added.

The Zone also called on the Federal Government to prioritize national security and the protection of lives and property rather than concentrating efforts on re-election campaigns.

“The Federal Government should enhance its responsibility to restore peace in the country instead of focusing its energy on the 2027 re-election,” it stated.

The meeting was presided over by Zonal Chairman Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, with party stakeholders and leaders from across the six states of the North Central zone in attendance.
