A renowned columnist and political analyst, Amanze Obi, have advised the Federal government and the National Assembly against what he described as frivolous and divisive agitations for state creation across the country, urging the Federal Government and the National Assembly to focus instead on addressing the imbalance in Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.

In his widely read column Broken Tongues, Obi argued that while state creation remains a legitimate demand, only a few agitations have been genuinely pursued with clear boundaries, broad consultation, and community consent.

He singled out the Anioma State agitation as one deserving serious consideration, stressing that its promoters have demonstrated preparedness and fairness in their demands.

He particularly faulted the promoters of the proposed Orlu—or Anim—State, saying they have failed to define boundaries clearly and had ignored the opposition of affected communities.

According to him, “State creation should be guided by willingness, not force. Any attempt to annex unwilling communities will only weaken genuine agitations.”

Obi urged President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to treat the imbalance in the South East, which currently has only five states, as a matter of urgent national importance.

Creating Anioma State and grouping it with the South East, he argued, would not only right the wrongs of the past but also heal political wounds, calm frayed nerves, and set a new standard for credible state creation demands.

He dismissed many other proposals as the handiwork of “expansionists” seeking to annex territories rather than integrate communities, warning that true state creation must serve unity, justice, and national progress. Stay with www.krestnews.com for more news reports and updates.
