President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his official visit to Kaduna State to allow for an urgent trip to Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, in response to the lingering security crisis in the state.

According to a State House press release on Monday signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the visit is part of renewed efforts to address the recurring violence that has led to the loss of lives and displacement of communities in Benue.

“President Bola Tinubu has rescheduled his official visit to Kaduna State. Instead, he will travel to Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, as part of renewed efforts to foster peace and address the persistent conflict affecting communities in the state,” the statement read.

During the visit, the President is expected to meet with a broad range of stakeholders, including traditional rulers, political and religious leaders, community heads, and youth representatives, in a bid to chart a path to lasting peace.

The press release noted that ahead of the President’s visit, key federal officials have already been deployed to the state. These include the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, heads of intelligence agencies, the National Security Adviser, and the Chairmen of the Senate and House Committees on Defence.

The visit will also feature a town hall meeting where President Tinubu is expected to engage stakeholders directly.

“President Tinubu has previously condemned the ongoing violence in Benue State and called on all leaders and residents to embrace peace, love, and mutual understanding,” the statement added. “He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to all those who have suffered losses as a result of the crisis.”

President Tinubu had initially been scheduled to visit Kaduna State on Wednesday to commission state government projects, according to an itinerary released over the weekend. That visit has now been shifted to Thursday, June 19, 2025.

The statement reaffirmed the President’s commitment to security and peace across all regions of the country.
