Paramount Ruler of the Tiv nation, Orcivirigh Prof James Ayatse has again appealed to Tiv people to emulate the forefathers of Tiv nation who overcame challenges through unity and harmonious coexistence among themselves.
The Tor Tiv stated this in his palace in Gboko while beading the newly selected Tor Jechira HRH Engr Edward Ujege implored the Tor Jechira to avoid partisan politics at all cost to enable him relate with his subjects irrespective of their political leanings and religious affiliations.
He described HRH Ujege as a distinguished son of Tiv kingdom who has contributed immensely to the peace and unity of Tiv nation during his tenure as the President General of Mdzough u Tiv, a position he stressed propelled him to the seat of the Tor Jechira.
Orcivirigh Ayatse urged him to remain committed and determined for his desire for peace and unity of his people and uphold good virtues Jechira people are known for.
In their various remarks Jechira sons and traditional rulers led by the two council chairmen of Konshisha and Vandeikya, the out going Acting Tor Jechira pledged their unflinching loyalty to the Tor Tiv and Tor Jechira calling the Tor Jechira to partner with the Begha u Tiv to savage Tiv nation to realize permanent peace in the land.
Accepting his new throne, the new Tor Jechira, HRH Edward Ujege promised to abide by the wise counsels of the Begha u Tiv, the elders and leaders of Jechira through humility and self denial for the unity and peaceful coexistence of Jechira land.
Special Assistant to Tor Tiv on Media and ICT, Freddie Adamgbe appealed to both the warring communities of Shangev Tiev and Gaav as well as Kunav with their Igede and Udam neighbours of Oju and Cross River State to embrace peace be their brothers’ keepers.
Also speaking, the President General of Mzough U Tiv (MUT) worldwide, CP Iorbee Ihagh, praised the Tor Tiv, Orchivirigh Prof James Ayatse and the State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, for not interfering with the selection of the Tor Jechira and for allowing the right thing to be done.
He advised the Tor Jechira to work closely with the Tor Tiv to find lasting solutions to the problems of insecurity facing the Benue people to enable the displaced population go back to their ancestral homes and face their responsibilities of farming to feed the nation.
