The Tor Tiv, Orcivirigh Prof James Ayatse, has charged the 10th Benue State House of Assembly to prioritize the interests of Benue citizens in their legislative endeavors.
He emphasized the importance of resisting any temptation to compromise standards and instead focus on enacting laws that drive development.
A statement signed by the Special Assistant to the Tor Tiv on Media and ICT, Freddie Adamgbe , said the Tor Tiv, who made the call in his Palace in Gboko when members of the Benue State House of Assembly led by its Speaker, Hon. Alfred Emberga paid him a courtesy visit.
The Tor Tiv implored the Assembly members to always follow the part of peace, unity and progress by consulting their constituents before taking decisions on matters affecting them.
The Begha u Tiv lauded their resilience in the midst of insecurity that ravaged the state and assured them of the support and cooperation of the Benue State Council of Traditional Rulers for peace to prevail.
He said “As your fathers and custodians of the culture and traditions of the people, we will always play our roles of giving you good counsel on matters that can affect our people very positively. So feel free to consult us on matters that you wish to have clarification anytime.”
He appealed to them to collaborate with the other two arms of the government, the Executive and Judiciary to ensure that the state achieves its desired development even as he charged them to intervene in major aspects in the education sector to encourage the teaching of science and technology in all schools in the state.
Speaking earlier, the Speaker, Hon Alfred Emberga informed the Tor Tiv of the new leadership change in the assembly saying he has led them to present themselves to the Paramount Ruler who is also the chairman of the Benue State Council of Traditional Rulers.
Emberga said they have also come to solicit for his Royal blessings to effectively perform their duties as representatives of their people.
He assured the Tor Tiv that the Assembly would seek his counsel always to enable them perform their duties effectively.
The Speaker stressed that as his children they lack the required experience and have chosen to seek for vast knowledge of the Tor Tiv whose good counsel can enable them embark upon good legislation for the overall interest of Benue people.
The Majority Leader, Hon Thomas Dugeri while appreciating the Tor Tiv fir hosting them, commended the warm reception accorded them and pledged the loyalty of the house to the traditional institution and promised to abide by the good counsel of the royal father.
The Majority Leader who noted that the 10th Assembly is not at loggerhead with the two arms of government said they would collaborate for positive development to thrive for the interest of Benue State.
