For her consistency in promoting disabilities rights over the years in the country, the founder of the Queen Adenike Tejuosho Foundation, Ambassador Dr. Halimat Tejuosho has bagged the prestigious National Assembly Award of Excellence.
The award was presented by the chairman of the House Committee on Disability Matters, Hon. Bashiru Dawodu, who acknowledging her tireless efforts to uplift persons with disabilities in Nigeria.
Affectionately known as the “Mother of Persons with Disabilities,” Dr. Tejuosho has earned widespread admiration for her dedication to empowering vulnerable communities.
The award also marked World Disability Day, an event that saw Dr. Tejuosho joining the disability community at Unity Fountain in Abuja to celebrate the theme: “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.”
In her heartfelt address, Dr. Tejuosho reminded all individuals with disabilities of their boundless potential, stating, “There is ability in disability.” Her message of love, strength, and resilience continues to inspire and uplift the community, highlighting the importance of inclusion and leadership in shaping a better future for all.
As Dr. Tejuosho accepted the award, she reflected on the transformative work being done to ensure persons with disabilities are not only seen but heard and included in all aspects of society. She emphasized the necessity for increased advocacy, urging both government bodies and organizations to collaborate in creating an environment where persons with disabilities have equal access to opportunities.
Her speech underscored the significance of providing platforms for disabled persons to lead and contribute to the ongoing development of Nigeria, which in turn helps build a more inclusive, sustainable future for everyone.
