Yuletide: FRSC, others hold simulation exercise in Kaduna

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in collaboration with other road emergency actors on Tuesday conducted a simulation exercise along the Kaduna-Abuja expressway at Kakau, Chikun Local Government area of Kaduna State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Federal Fire Service and the Nigerian Red Cross Society were part of the exercise.

Others were the Kaduna State Traffic Law Enforcement Agency (KASTELEA) and members of the transport unions.

In his address, Mr. Hafiz Mohammed, FRSC Sector Commander, Kaduna State, said the exercise was organised in preparation for the yuletide season’s activities often characterised by an increase in traffic volume.

“We are here today to witness a simulation exercise which would dovetail to show of readiness, where we showcase ambulances, rescue machine, tow trucks that would clear obstruction among others.

“We want to create two scenarios that would show us what we are to do and then prepare personnel capacity so that if there are gaps, those gaps would be closed.

“This would prepare them adequately for the work ahead in the next few weeks until the beginning of the year 2022,” he said.

He urged road users to avoid over-speeding, maintain speed limits and also avoid night travels so that they would enjoy quality road experience.

Similarly, Mr. Godwin Omiko, Zonal Commander, RS1Headquarters, said that the exercise was an opportunity for FRSC to showcase readiness to combat the traffic situation witnessed at the end of each year.

He explained that maintaining safety and security on the roads especially during the yuletide period is not the duty of FRSC only, but that of all road emergency actors and users.

Omiko noted that it was the duty of all emergency road actors to collaborate and synergise so as to complement the FRSC efforts by ensuring that the roads were safe and emergency help done effectively.

Mr. Abbani Imam-Garki, Zonal Coordinator, NEMA North-West Zonal Office, Kaduna, said the agency was at the exercise to showcase the equipment they use in emergency management.

“The essence is to showcase our equipment in preparation for the yuletide operations.

“NEMA also runs a similar operation to complement the effort of the road safety corps. Emergency management is a collaborative work,” he said.
