New Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly (NSHA), Ogah Ogazi, Wednesday morning presided over plenary, a day after the assembly’s inauguration
The plenary had in attendance 13 members who were administered oaths of office on Tuesday June 06 following the proclamation issued by Governor Abdullahi Sule for its inauguration where a 26-year-old Mohammed Oyanki (PDP, Doma North) was elected as Deputy Speaker.
The 7th Assembly’s only female member, Hon. Hajara Ibrahim Danyaro (APC, Nasarawa Central), who was absent at the inauguration, had pledged her loyalty, taking the total number of the Ogah Ogazi-led Assembly to 14 Members.
Meanwhile, more members of the Executive-pocketed faction had also indicated interest to join and begged their constituents for forgiveness over what they described as “aiding lawlessness and denting the image of their Constituencies”
The governing All Progressives Congress (APC) had retained its majority status in the 7th Assembly with 11 seats, PDP 08, SDP 03, and NNPP 02.
Meanwhile, many supporters and families of the lawmakers sworn in at the state assembly complex kept vigil until the early hours of this morning being Wednesday 7th June 2023.
The new legislative session has had its first sitting during which it restrained the other 10 members from parading themselves as members if the state assembly until they subject themselves to legal oath taking before competent persons and officers of the assembly.
The legislators have since proceeded on recess, having ordered the police to seal the premises of the assembly until they resume in the next 2 weeks.
