Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has described the challenges confronting the state as temporary setbacks and called for the unity of the Church in addressing them for the peace and prosperity of the state.

He affirmed his administration’s firm commitment to implementing lasting measures aimed at curbing insecurity and halting the spate of violent attacks across the state.

Governor Mutfwang made the remarks on Wednesday while declaring open the 72nd General Church Council (GCC) meeting of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), held at the International Conference Centre in Jos, Plateau State.

He commended the Church, particularly ECWA for its significant contributions to agriculture, education, and healthcare in the state. He noted that institutions such as Bingham University and the Bingham University Teaching Hospital in Jos are clear testaments to ECWA’s developmental impact.

The Governor assured of his administration’s readiness to expand the frontiers of agriculture and encouraged citizens to actively engage in the sector for economic sustainability. Highlighting the immense benefits of livestock farming and other agricultural ventures, he emphasized that agriculture has become the mainstay of Nigeria’s economy and a pathway to self-reliance.

He also praised the clergy for their dedication and tireless efforts in spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. “The Church has done exceptionally well in preaching the gospel. It is the gospel that has shaped our identity. We are known as Christians because of the gospel, and that has defined who we are,” he said.

Governor Mutfwang decried the over two-decade history of violence in Plateau State and reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to end the cycle of unrest and restore lasting peace.

In his remarks, the President of ECWA, Rev. Dr. Job Ayuba Bagat, expressed appreciation to the Governor for gracing the occasion and commended his proactive approach to the security issues in Bokkos and Bassa Local Government Areas.

He assured the Governor of ECWA’s continued support, particularly through prayers, as the administration works to surmount the challenges facing the state.
