Autopsy conducted on 17-year-old deceased showed bullet penetration – Pathologist tells court

A Pathologist, Prof. Olabode Oluwole, told an FCT High Court, Kubwa that autopsy conducted on a 17-year-old deceased boy showed an entry gunshot wound.

Oluwole, a consultant at the University of Abuja Teaching hospital, Gwagwalada, said this at the resumed trial of former Insp. Haruna Ocheni, charged with culpable homicide.

The witness, led in evidence by the  Prosecution Counsel, Adama Musa said he was called upon by the investigating police officer, Insp. Felix Peter, to conduct an autopsy sometime in 2020.

“The autopsy conducted showed massive blood clot in the abdomen and there was an entry gun wound on the right back of the deceased between his sixth to seventh rib.

“The exit was at the seventh rib anteriorly and the diaphragm was torn by the gun shot which resulted to severe hypovolaemic meaning, severe blood loss due to the gun shot wound, ” he said.

During cross-examination, the defence counsel, Gabriel Salifu asked the witness how many days after the death of the 17-year-old boy the autopsy was conducted.

Salifu also asked if other factors lead to the cause of death. In response, the witness said autopsy was conducted a couple of days after the death of the 17-year-old boy at the  Kubwa General Hospital.

” Based on my findings a bullet passed through the diaphragm and tore the great vessels which leads to severe bleeding which was the cause of death,” he said.

Justice Kezziah Ogbonnaya however adjourned the case until Feb.14 for continuation of hearing.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the defendant allegedly shot the 17-year-old boy to death in his father’s house, Mr Gabriel Chikezie, in March 2020.
