Ahead of preparation to the 2025 Tiv Cultural Day and Summit, the Tiv Area Traditional Council (TATC), known as “IJIR TAMEN,” has approved 10th–13th December for august event.
The meeting of the Ijir Tamen, the highest decision‑making body in Tiv Nation, was presided over by its President, the paramount ruler of the Tiv Nation, His Royal Majesty, Begha u Tiv, Orcivighir, Prof. James Ayatse, Tor Tiv at the Tor Tiv Palace, Gboko, Benue State.
In attendance were the President General of Mdzough U Tiv Worldwide, Chief Iorbee Ihagh, and all the graded chiefs in Tiv land, including the six first‑class chiefs and 14 second‑class chiefs.
Speaking at the Ijir Tamen meeting, Chief Ihagh highlighted the major activities from Day 1 (10 Dec) to the final day (13 Dec), which include but are not limited to: Tiv Essay competition, Tiv Women Summit, Tiv Youths Summit, Kwagh‑hir & puppet‑theatre competition, Folk‑tales competition, and Round‑table discussion featuring three papers.
Others include: Gesa u Avaan man Awange, Ukauka competition (group & solo), Mami Wata dance & masquerade parade of all kinds, Gesa u Ishiva, Ateratar Dar, Mou u Tan. Also included are: Agric Show, oral poetry competition, Award nights, Kumashe U Tiv Contest, Tor‑Kwaor contest, carnival procession, and many others.
President General also commended the Central Planning Committee (CPC) for their tireless efforts, assuring that this year’s Tiv Day will attract local and international houses, including Tiv TV live coverage across all social Media platforms.
Responding, the Ijir Tamen, headed by Tor Tiv, expressed satisfaction and commended Mdzough U Tiv and the Central planning committee (CPC) for the work done so far, urging them to sustain the tempo.
He charged all Tiv sons and daughters, home and in the diaspora, to support and attend the annual Tiv Cultural Day celebration in Gboko the headquarters of Tiv Nation. After careful consideration, the Ijir Tamen approved this year’s Tiv Day celebration to hold between 10–13 December, is now official.
Similarly, a press statement signed by the Secretary to the President General Mdzough U Tiv Worldwide, Comrade Nicholas Ishom, and made available to newsmen in Makurdi on Saturday said the President General Chief Iorbee Ihagh met with the Central Planning Committee after the Ijir Tamen meeting, where he thanked the Paramount Ruler of Tiv Nation and the Ijir Tamen for the approval of this year’s Tiv Day celebration.
He reiterated that Tiv Day is not only a celebration and display of “our Rich Cultural Heritage but also a summit to brainstorm on the way forward and unity of the Tiv Nation, to attract development and dividends of unity.”
He called on Tiv sons and daughters to put in their best for the success of the day, by supporting the event in whatever little ways they can, urging them to also be in attendance throughout the period in their Tiv traditional attire.
He said the event isn’t for anyone else but they themselves, hence the need for all sons and daughters of Tiv Nation to be proudly in attendance and participate in the series of the lined‑up activities.
Chief Ihagh noted that, all first‑class chiefs in Tiv land are also members of the Central Planning Committee CPC, and they are doing their very best in supporting the event in their areas of jurisdiction to ensure the success of the event.
He also noted that Mdzough U Tiv has created a website for membership registration and payment of dues among other necessary informations while a Tiv Television has also been established at the Tor Tiv Palace.
Responding, the Central Planning Committee (CPC) Chairman, Prof. Tar Adejir, and Secretary General Mdzough U Tiv Worldwide, Comrade Luther Iorbee, Chairman of the Finance Sub‑Committee, Dr. Terver Tule, Prof. Itwange of Agricultural show Sub Committee, and Dr. Dzerkaan Fanafa of Contact, Mobilization and Publicity Sub Committee all called for harmonious working relationship among Tiv sons and daughters home and in the Diaspora to make this year’s Tiv Day celebration a success.
Prof. Adejir particularly called on support of prominent sons and daughters of Tiv nation and requested their presence to add colour to the event, saying, “coming together, brainstorming will definitely be of great value to the Tiv nation”.
He thanked the Ijir Tamen headed by the Tor Tiv for the approval, the Mdzough U Tiv for their unflinching support, members of the Central planning committee for their unalloyed support and the sub‑committees for their dedication to the task given to them, and prayed God to continue to give them the needed strength to carry out the tasks.
