Scores have been reportedly burnt to death while several others sustained degrees of burnt in a petrol tanker explosion at Dikko junction along Abuja- Kaduna Road in Niger state.

According to an eye witness account, the petrol tanker is said to be loaded with petroleum product spilled its contents in an accident, however exploded at Dikko junction after some residents in the area went to scoop fuel.

The Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has expressed shock over the accident, describing it as a heartbreaking and unfortunate.

In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the Governor described the incident as a national tragedy, worrisome, heartbreaking and unfortunate”.

He sympathised with the families of the victims of the explosion and prays that Allah will repose the souls of the departed and heal the injured.

He cautioned the people to always be responsible and give priority to their safety whenever situation like this present itself.

He directed all the relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to do what is necessary while urging the Security Agents to ensure security in the area.
