Fed Poly Nasarawa expels 100 for examination malpractices

The Acting Rector, Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa has announced the expulsion of 100 students involved in examination malpractices in the 2023/2024 academic session.

The acting Rector, Dr Hauwa Muhammad disclosed this during the 41st Matriculation ceremony of 15, 000 students admitted to the school on Saturday in Nasarawa local government area of the state.

TMSnews gathered that the matriculated students are for National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND) and Part Time programmes for the 2024/2025 academic session.

Muhammad, who conducted the matriculation ceremony of the students cautioned the new students from engaging in examination malpractices so as not to face the same fate that befell 100 former students of the 2023)2024 academic session who were expelled for examination malpractices.

“It may interest you to know that in the last academic session no fewer that 100 students who engaged in examination malpractices have been expelled from the polytechnic and such disciplinary action will continue to be administered,” the Rector declared

The Rector congratulated the students for meeting the criteria to be admitted into the institution to commence academic programmes into the ND, HND for the 2024/2025 academic session hence their admission and matriculation.

“We welcome you all to this peaceful community where we mould students in both learning and character. I therefore urge you all to be very serious with your studies,” she said.

She then urged the students to be law abiding students so that the existing peaceful atmosphere conducive for teaching and learning will be upheld.

Muhammad also warned the students against engaging in any form of social vices and drug abuse, urging them to desist from any form of cult activities and ensure they maintain peaceful coexistence among themselves.

In an interview, Muhammad added that the institution management under her leadership will continue to improve teaching, research and learning.

“In our efforts to maintain academic quality of our programmes, we have ensured streamlining the number of students intakes with the available infrastructure and resources we have.

“In the same vein we have commenced new programmes such as Railway Engineering Technology, Cement Technology, Welding,”

Muhammad who confirmed that she is in her second six months tenure as Acting Rector vowed to continue to prioritize staff and students welfare and complete whatever projects her management commenced in her first tenure.

“In this second tenure I am going to also really shift our focus on skills acquisition so that our students when they graduate will not depend on white collar jobs,” she said.

In another interview, Dr Munir Ahmed, Registrar of the institution confirmed that about 15000 students were given admissions to study various programmes in the different schools in the institution for the 2024/2025 academic session.

He listed the schools to include School of Applied Sciences, School of Business Studies, School of Environmental Studies, School of Engineering Technology, School of General Studies, School of Information Technology and School of Technical and Vocational Education.

He assured that all staff will continue to cooperate with the Acting Rector for a harmonious working relationship and to achieve the goals set out for the institution.

“There is coordination and everybody is being carried along. That is why everything is been run smoothly,” he said.

Commenting on their admittance into the institution, one of the new students, Jimoh Temitope thanked the school management for matriculating him to study in the institution and promised to attain academic excellence.
