Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has described his invitation to commission the Otuoke/Onuebum Road in Bayelsa State as a tremendous honor for both himself and the God‑fearing people of Plateau State.
The Governor in a statement issued by Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr.Gyang Bere, expressed optimism that this milestone would further strengthen the enduring relationship between the people of Plateau State and Bayelsa.
Performing the ceremony, Governor Mutfwang lauded Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, as a “miracle governor” whose remarkable strides in road infrastructure have brought the much‑needed relief to the residents of Otuoke/Onuebum, as well as to the students of the Federal University, Otuoke.
He added that the steadfast support from the people of Bayelsa has been instrumental in Diri’s transformative leadership, remarking, “It has been five years of miracles, as he has been a beneficiary of God’s grace.”
“I want to sincerely thank God and express my heartfelt gratitude to my brother, Governor Douye Diri, for giving me the opportunity to partake in the first year of his second tenure. I am excited to witness this development in Bayelsa and to celebrate the tremendous progress the state has made under his leadership,” Governor Mutfwang said.
He further expressed strong optimism that, by the end of Governor Diri’s tenure, his legacy will leave an indelible mark on Bayelsa, a mark that the people will never forget.
“Inviting me to commission this road is not only a personal honor but also a tribute to Plateau State. I am delighted that this event is taking place on Valentine’s Day, a symbol of the enduring bond between Plateau and Bayelsa. We will continue to build on this relationship and contribute to the progress of our nation,” he added.
Acknowledging the critical challenges facing Nigeria, Governor Mutfwang voiced hope that the nation will emerge stronger and more united, celebrating its collective triumphs.
He also praised former President Goodluck Jonathan as a statesman and a father figure whose steadfast commitment to peace and unity earned him international acclaim. “He exemplified true leadership by refusing to shed blood for politics,” he noted.
In his remarks, Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, explained that the rehabilitation of the road has significantly alleviated the hardships endured by the people of Otuoke/Onuebum and the wider Bayelsa community.
He recalled that while the state was once neglected due to its challenging terrain, its abundant natural resources, such as oil and gas, remain a beacon for development.
“Bayelsa is open for development,” he stated, adding that there is a pressing need for an upward review of the 13 percent derivation that accrues to the state.
“People say that our terrain is difficult to develop, but we are showing the world that it is not. This road has alleviated the plight of the people of Otuoke/Onuebum and all of Bayelsa. Governance is about bringing happiness to the majority, and we are proud that our people are happy with this development,” Governor Diri concluded.
