By Muhammad Danlami

Gunmen have kidnapped over 50 women and children during a raid on Kakin Dawa, a village in the Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara state.

Zamfara State Police Command disclosed that the incident happened on Sunday.

Hassan Ya’u, a resident of the community who escaped the attack but whose younger sister was kidnapped, said the gunmen arrived at around 1:30, heavily armed and kidnapped from different houses.

“Later, we found out that they kidnapped more than 50 women, including married women and girls,” said Ya’u.

The residents also appealed to the Federal Government and the Zamfara State Governemnt to deploy more security operatives to address the gnawing insecurity in the state.

“We are appealing to the federal and Zamfara state governments to send more soldiers and security personnel to fight those bandits,” he said.

Many states in Northwestern and Northeastern Nigeria are grappling with insecurity. Zamfara is also suffering its fair share of this crisis.

Between October and November, bandits carried out different attacks in the Wanke and Gurusu villages of Gusau and Gummi Local Government Areas of Zamfara State and the busy Gusau–Funtua highway, where they attacked scores of people. (The Guardian)
