In a deliberate move to bolster both security and development in Nasarawa State, Governor Abdullahi A. Sule, Friday, received the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, and his Principal Officers on a high-level courtesy visit to the state.
The visit, marked the Nigerian Army Headquarters’ official communication of a landmark decision to relocate the Nigerian Army Special Forces Training School to Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Governor Sule, whose leadership style and his strong advocacy for security-led development, described the decision of the Army authority to relocate the special Forces of the army formation to Nasarawa as a “major leap forward” for the state’s security architecture and a vote of confidence in its stability and growing relevance.
Governor Sule expressed optimism about the prospects, stating that the presence of the Special Forces Training School will not only help in responding more swiftly to security threats in the North-Central region but also foster deeper collaboration between the military and civilian population.
“This is a strong statement by the Nigerian Army and a step that aligns with our vision to make Nasarawa a hub of peace, investment, and national service,” Gov. Sure stated.
Speaking during the visit, Lt. Gen. Oluyede was quick to emphasized the strategic relevance of Nasarawa State in Nigeria’s evolving security framework.
He noted that the state’s proximity to the Federal Capital Territory, combined with its relatively peaceful environment and supportive governance, made it an ideal location for the elite Special Forces unit to establish its training base.
“This relocation is more than just a structural shift; it is a strategic investment in the future of security and professionalism in the Nigerian Army,” Lt. Gen. Oluyede declared.
According to the Army Chief of Staff, “as part of this new chapter, the Nigerian Army is also set to hold a Foundation Laying Ceremony at the site of the new Special Forces Headquarters in Doma. This event is expected to attract top military brass, key government officials, and security stakeholders, highlighting the significance of the project”.
City Post observed that, the relocation of the Special Forces Training School is more than a boost to security as it is a harbinger of economic and infrastructural growth for the Nasarawa people.
It is also observed that With an increased military presence in Nasarawa and in particular Doma, better road networks, improved social amenities, and job opportunities for locals, especially in construction, logistics, and support services would be increased the life style of the residents.
It is expected that with the foundation stone soon to be laid in Doma, the people of Nasarawa State look ahead with renewed hope. With stronger ties between the government and security institutions, the state is poised to stand taller on Nigeria’s national map — not just as a gateway to the nation’s capital, but as a new center for elite military excellence and regional stability.
