Immediate past governor of Plateau State, Dr Jonah Jang counselled the duo of the presidential candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Gov Nyesome Wike of Rivers State. Da Jonah Jang was in Port Harcourt to honor the invitation of Governor Nyesom Wike.
Wike had invited Sen. Jang to Rivers to flag off the Construction of Omagwa Internal Roads in the Ikwerre Local government Area.
Speaking directly to Wike, the ex-governor said; “It (creating good governance) only shows the kind of leader you are. As you join us in the league of statesmen after your tenure here, the good people of Rivers state will never forget your legacies. Above all, you will be able to stand before our Creator, the Almighty God, and give an account of your stewardship in Rivers state with the people bearing witness by His grace.
I want to salute your courage for offering yourself to our dear nation’s service by contesting our great party’s presidential primary election. Regardless of the outcome, I want to encourage you to continue demonstrating Leadership through your support for the Peoples’ Democratic Party, which you have been an integral part of nurturing.”
Jang, however, called on Atiku Abubakar to unite all members of the PDP in order to defend common interests.
He said: “Finally, I call on the Presidential candidate of our party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to close ranks with members. Doing this will guarantee victory in the 2023 general elections. These Men and Women built and sustained this party.”
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Jang said Governor Wike has shown he has the fear of God and remained committed to Rivers people’s welfare.
“Over four decades ago, I visited Rivers state as a young officer of the Nigerian Airforce, and a lot has changed since then. Flying over Rivers state, you will notice that the Landscape has changed. An enormous infrastructural development has occurred over the years, especially during His excellency Governor Nyesom Wike.
“I was here in Rivers state almost Five years ago to Commission a sprawling edifice, the Civil servants’ quarters built by this administration. Today, Governor Wike has remained committed to Rivers people’s welfare.
Having been Governor, I know it takes a person who fears God and loves his people to embark on his people’s massive infrastructural and social development. Infrastructure is not cheap, especially in the Mangrove forests region of the Niger Delta; it takes the commitment of human and financial resources to achieve such a feat.
At this point in our nationhood, Nigeria is drowning with inflation rates of over 18%, foreign reserves are dwindling, and external debts are at an all-time high. We have no infrastructure to show for it, nor commensurate economic growth. But here we are on the 20th day of August 2022, in a Peoples Democratic Party-led administration in Rivers state, celebrating good governance. In the twilight of this administration, you are keeping faith with your people by Flagging off the construction of Omagwa internal roads in Ikwerre local government area of Rivers state.”
