Professor Humphrey Nwosu, Chairman of National Electorial Commission who conducted the annulled June 12 elections in 1993 reported dead.

Late Professor Humphrey Nwosu, manned the National Electoral Commission (NEC) from 1989 to 1993.

TMSnews leant that Nwosu, who was born on October 2, 1941, died in a hospital in Virginia, United States of America.

The former NEC Chairman was appointment by then military head of state, Ibrahim Babangida,to conduct the June 12, 1993 election, adjudged as the fairest and dearest election in the political history of the nation’s politics.

The presidential election was a claimed to be won by Chief Moshood Abiola, the candidate of the Social Democratic Party, defeating Bashir Tofa, the candidate of the National Republican Convention.

Nwosu’s commission introduced Option A4 voting system and the Open ballot system in election he released many of the results when he was ordered by the Babangida military regime to stop further announcement.

TMS news recalled that in July 2024, the House of Representatives called on President Bola Tinubu to immortalise Nwosu for conducting the election adjudged as the freest and most credible in Nigeria.
