The Organized labour in Nasarawa State has resolved to continue with the ongoing strike until the state government implements the National Minimum Wage and its consequential adjustments for workers.

Organized labour in Nasarawa State has resolved to continue its strike until the state government implements the National Minimum Wage and its consequential adjustments for workers.
The Chairmen of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ismaila Okoh, and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Mohammed Doma, made this known while leading their members to the State Police Command in Lafia
.Recalled that the ongoing strike by the organized labor over the non payment of the new national minimum wage in the State has escalated, following the invitation of the NLC chairman, Comrade Ismaila Oko by the police commissioner.
reacting to the Chairman’s invitation by the police, workers mobilize and gathered in large numbers at the Abdullahi A Sule trade union secretariate chanting solidarity songs as the marched with the NLC chairman on Lafia -along shandam road in the state Capital.
The NLC chairman who was full of surprises over the police invitation stated that the union was pursuing it’s legitimate right through lawful and peaceful means.
According to him, workers will not yield to intimidation untill their demands for the approved minimum wage were meet.
On his part, the TUC chairman, Comrade Mohammed Doma called on the state government to demonstrate genuine commitment by paying the minimum wage and it’s consequential adjustment noting that this was neccesary for industrial peace and stability.
Commenting on the invitation of the NLC Chairman, the state commissioner of Police, CP Shehu Nadada explained while addressing the workers that the invitation of the NLC Chairman was due to alleged infractions by the workers during the enforcement of the strike.
CP Nadada further warned that security agents will not tolerate any action that will infringe on the right of law abiding citizens.
Provoked workers however dispersed following the meeting with the police authority and resumed enforcement of the strike at various government offices,
Meanwhile, several government offices including schools, hospitals has remained closed due to the indefinite strike where residents areare worried about what the described as ineptitude on the part of the government to resolve the impass.
They have urged the government to address the demands of the workers and resolve the strike in the interest of ordinary citizens.
