In furtherance to it’s campaign against the Muslim-muslim ticket of the All Progressive Congress, APC, the leadership of the
Northern Christian Leaders in APC, have embarked upon a high power tour to prominent stakeholders including governors of opposition parties.
The tour is part of their resolutions by it’s inaugurated committee to consault both Christian and Muslim stakeholders over the Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2023 presidential election by the party’s presidential candidate, Sen Bola Tinubu.
The Christian leaders made this known weekend in Abuja. This was made available to TMSnews in Abuja in a communiqué issued and jointly signed by Prof. Doknan Sheni (Plateau) North Central; Dr Ishaya Bauka (Taraba) North East and Prof. Saidu Ibrahim (Jigawa) North West respectively.
They said that the purpose of the committee was to arrive at the best platform that would better galvanise and steer their patriotic spirits.
According to them, the committee also intends to galvanize their resolve towards collectively building a united multi religious, multi-ethnic society as guaranteed by Nigeria’s constitution.
The communique stated that after careful considerations and deliberations, the summit resolved that the adoption of a Muslim–Muslim ticket by their party was divisive, unjust and insensitive.
It, however, stated that the Northern Christians in APC would not support or enable any attempt to divide Nigeria along religious lines.
“We resolved that we will set up a committee within us with a mandate to go round Nigeria and consult with both Christians and Muslim stakeholders, including other stakeholders.
It stated that stakeholders, not of the faith community but who shared the aspirations for a peaceful and united Nigeria would be galvanized.
“This is to arrive at the best platform that will better galvanize and steer the patriotic spirits and resolve to build a united multi religious, multi-ethnic society as guaranteed by the constitution.
The religious leaders said that they also resolved to summon an interfaith summit in no distant future after consultations were concluded across religious divides.
This, according to the communiqué, would be where notable Muslim and Christian leaders would announce to the nation and the world the best Pan-Nigerian platform that would better serve the collective interests of the people beyond 2023.
The communique added, “That all delegates will return to their communities and disseminate these resolutions and await the convocation of the next summit where a final decision would be taken on the ticket that we will collectively vote for in 2023.”
Meanwhile, leaders of the group and former Secretary of the Government of the Federation, SGF, Engr Babachir Lawal and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara have embarked on the tour visit of some prominent stakeholders to sell the idea.
The duo were in Portharcourt, Rivers State where they met with Gov Nyisome Wike behind closed doors.
The team is expected to meet with Gov Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau, Gov Samuel Ortom of Benue state and Gov Ishiaku Dairus of Taraba state early Monday.
TMSnews reports that the meeting with Gov Ortom is crucial because of the vocal stand of the Benue born nonsense politician’s approach on issues especially as they affect the Middle Belt people including the Northern Christians politicians under the present President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.
TMSnews crew will give details on the visits.
